Explore Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River & Hwange National Park

Breath in the mist of Victoria Falls above the thundering roar of the Zambezi River. Watch the crane of a giraffe’s neck and the silent survey of a hunting leopard. Stacked with incredible game preserves like Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls National Park, the country maintains some of the best locations to see Africa’s Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. Beyond the animals, access to the mighty Zambezi allows for one of the most action-packed Class IV-V whitewater rafting trips on earth. No matter how you arrive, prepare for a life-changing odyssey of proportions only Africa can provide.

What are the differences between the Zimbabwe Safari adventures OARS offers?

OARS offers two different itineraries for those interested in a Zimbabwe safari and rafting the Zambezi River.

The Ultimate Africa adventure is a 14-day trip that includes a 3-day Zambezi whitewater expedition. Highlights of this trip include staying in the classic luxury safari lodges, the Old Drift, Somalisa Camp and The Elephant Camp, exploring the Upper Zambezi via kayak, and experiencing the raw power of Victoria Falls. For those looking to experience Africa at the peak of safari comfort, this is the trip.

The Zambezi River Rafting & Zimbabwe Safari trip is a shorter 8-day itinerary, featuring both rafting and wildlife viewing. Stay in the world-renowned Wallow Lodge in the heart of Victoria Falls National Park. Spend four full days challenging the incredible whitewater of the Zambezi. After exploring the river, rest, recoup and spot iconic wildlife at the Iganyana Tented Camp in the heart of Hwange National Park.

How are the accommodations?

Accommodations on both the Ultimate Africa: Luxury Safari & Zambezi River Adventure and the Zambezi River Rafting & Zimbabwe Safari trip offer comfortable safari-style luxury with healthy and hearty meals, comfortable beds and great amenities. With stays at some of the higher profile safari lodges with pools, en-suite bathrooms and fine dining, our Ultimate Africa experience is the more luxurious of the two trips. Details for each lodging location can be found on the individual trip pages. While whitewater rafting, camps will be set-up on spacious beaches, complete with tents, dining area, portable toilet and unparalleled views. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have specific questions.

What is the whitewater on the Zambezi like?

The whitewater on the Zambezi River is a thrilling and formidable force of nature. Renowned for its challenging rapids and exhilarating currents, this iconic African river offers an excellent whitewater rafting experience. The Zambezi’s rapids range from Class III to Class V, meaning that they vary in difficulty. All paddlers should be prepared for possible flips and swims in some of the world’s biggest commercially-run rapids. Water temperature is typically in the 70s with air temperature often above 80-degrees throughout the day.
